Veggieland

Jared and I were going to try this all vegetarian but VERY vegan friendly place on my birthday but it was closed on Sundays, so yesterday we finally made it out to Veggieland. Like a lot of restaurants around here, Veggieland is in a strip mall. The menu was vast, ranging from veggie burgers with loads of toppings, salads and hot dishes. PLUS, at least 5 vegan desserts! Despite being in the richy rich part of Atlanta (Buckhead area) the prices were incredibly reasonable.
Jared decided upon the daily special of Potatoes and Veggie Curry with Brown Rice. It was very tasty and was only $5.95.

For me, there were too many choices and I panicked. I got the chili hot dog that came with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. It was good but not great. This is something I could have made at home. I will say the coleslaw was awesome and made with vegan mayo! The sweet potato fries were a bit under cooked. Luckily, this whole plate of food was only $4.95, so at least I didn't feel ripped off.

What we will go back for was the vegan desserts! Jared and I shared the strawberry cake. It was a two layer yellow cake with vanilla icing and strawberries in the middle and a strawberry glaze on top. It was so good that I talked two other customers into getting a slice. The cake was the priciest menu item coming in at $3.95 but I love that a restaurant has vegan desserts and well worth the price to encourage them to continue making lovely vegan treats.

All and all, we will go back to Veggieland. I will take my time with my menu choice and pick something I couldn't make at home way better. Jared was very pleased with his dish and we both are in love with the dessert!

Looks like a score price-wise!! The strawberry shortcake does look delicious. I know what you mean about being overwhelmed by choices...doesn't happen at too many restaurants!

If Veggieland is good for one thing, it's the price. Pretty much everything I have ever eaten there I could make (better) at home, but when you're out and want to grab a bite, you can't go wrong for 5 bucks!
Southern Sweets bakes their vegan desserts, and Veggieland charges about $2 less per slice then the other restaurants that carry the Southern Sweets cakes, so that's another good reason to go.

Vegan Noodle- Yeah a total score with the prices! A lot of stuff I wanted to try had honey so that limited me a bit but they still had a LOT of choices for vegans!

Leigh- Good to know about the cakes. I agree it would be a good place to stop in if on the run. I'm not to sure I would go out of my way to go back though . . .
A good place to go to before or after a movie at one of the fancy Buckhead malls.

Wow... vegan desserts at a restaurant. What a novel concept ;-)

I love trying out new veg-friendly restaurants!

looks like a pretty good food spread at the restaurant!! the name "Veggieland" sounds like a vegetarian/vegan version of Disneyland or something, haha.

When I was in Chicago, dining in all those vegan-friendly restaurants I was SO overwhelmed with the menu choices - it was such a weird feeling, since normally I have to search for an appropriate dish!

Wow, that restaurant sure looks neat. Have you ever tried The Grit restaurant in Athens? I think it would be a bit of a drive for you. I've got their cookbook and vowed to go there if I am ever in GA.

BTW - Your crazy bread reminds me of "Pull Apart Bread" my mom used to make when I was little. I might have to make it.

Hello,
I'm new visiting your blog, and I love it so far! Happy (belated) birthday. I love restaurant reviews and that cake looks super!

Jody- I have been to The Grit. We drove over to Athens (only about an hour drive) back in July. We were there for brunch and my dish was too heavily coated with nutritional yeast BUT the biscuits and grits were awesome (I posted about it Here) We will for sure be returning for dinner though!

Next time try the Sally's surprise- it's pretty yummy! And they have some new desserts- not southern sweets. I'm SO GLAD that there's someone making sweets for us who just makes vegan desserts.

So Im searching on google for a new vegetarian restaurant, and I come across Veggieland. Under a search for this restaurant I see Pleasantly Plump Vegan as the third link... That is AWESOME and means your site is getting tons of hits, because google spiders list sites according to popularity. CONGRATS and thanks for the honest review. Im going to have to check Veggieland out.

Post Script: We need to get together for some fun or a bite soon :)
