Jared and I are eating out less to save money. Vegan sushi isn't expensive, per se, but when you order a salad, drink and factor in a tip, eating sushi out can get expensive. I was craving some sushi yesterday but realized I didn't have any nori wrappers . . . So, I made a un-sushi dish that incorporated all of the things I love in sushi and had on hand. I made a sweet & spicy sesame sauce with soy sauce, agave nectar, sesame seed oil, sriracha, green onions and black & white sesame seeds to put on top of thinly sliced avocado. I also made some steamed rice that I covered in more black & white sesame seeds. This was so good and surprisingly filling.

How creative! This sounds like it would be good even if you did have Nori sheets, just didn't feel like rolling everything up.
I really love sushi and all the fixins that go along with them. Yummmmm.
A perfect idea! The nori is my least favorite part about sushi, anyway.
...and I want to know how much agave you go through in a month :)
Like leigh, I'm not big on the nori sheets either (yeah, I know, they're the healhiest part... but I just can't get myself to like their ocean-y flavor). So your un-sushi sounds perfect to me!
you had me sold on the avocado - who needs nori?!?! :0D
That's a great idea! I was thinking about doing the same the other night, I was craving sushi madly but don't have any nori.
Who says you can't enjoy sushi without the nori... hehe. Looks yummy!
Ooh, fun! I'm not a big nori fan, so this looks like a good option for me!
Thats such a good idea! 'Cause sometimes, damnit, Im just too lazy to roll sushi!
what a cute idea! it's like chirashizushi ("scattered sushi"), which I've always wanted to try doing. (I love nori, but the rolling can be work)
This looks AWESOME. What a terrific idea! (And to jump on the bandwagon, I don't like nori, either, so this is right up my alley!)
I LOVE nori...but this looks tasty! It's good to just use what you have and not run to the store every time you run out of something. That's how I end up fixing some of my favorite dishes.
That looks great and avocado is so good for you!
A perfect idea! I prefer soy paper over nori wrappers, but haven't ever found them in stores.
That's great about eating in more, we're trying to do the same thing.
I make something like this with just soy sauce, ginger powder and vinegar. It's really good! I love your presentation!
i love this idea. you look as though you totally pulled off that restaurant dining experience in your own home!
looks yum!
